Today, enjoy a three-clip highlight reel from In Concert, showcasing the immense operatic talent on display throughout our fall offerings.
Overture, La forza del destino by Giuseppe Verdi
In this first clip, COC Music Director Johannes Debus and the COC Orchestra kick off the evening with the Overture from Verdi’s La forza del destino. A classic opening piece from the prolific Italian composer, Verdi’s Overture reflects upon the theme of fate, setting an impactful tone both within La forza and here in In Concert.
“Dich, teure Halle,” Tannhäuser by Richard Wagner
Last seen on the Four Seasons stage as the title character in the 2019/2020 production of Turandot, American soprano Tamara Wilson delivers a warm welcome back to the opera house singing “Dich, teure Halle” from Wagner's Tannhäuser. Speaking directly to the hall itself, Wilson reminds us of time away from the space, singing “beloved hall, I greet you again.”
“Tutto è deserto... Il balen del tuo sorriso,” Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi
Like Wilson, Braun too returns to the COC after his last appearance as Peter in 2019/2020’s Hansel & Gretel, delivering a stirring rendition of “Tutto è deserto... Il balen del tuo sorriso” from Verdi's Il Trovatore. While we celebrate this return to the stage, Braun reminds us here that the space "is still deserted,” foreshadowing an imminent return to live, in-person productions to come.
